Reviewing Your Ducati Outside the Dealership: Is It Possible Without Losing the Warranty?

One of the most common questions among many Ducati motorcycle enthusiasts is this: Is it possible to carry out maintenance or repair a breakdown at an independent workshop, different from the official brand’s workshop, without losing the warranty?

According to the European regulations approved in 2010, Regulation 461/2010 establishes guidelines related to vehicle warranties.

By law, the manufacturer is obligated to offer customers a three-year warranty with no mileage limit. Although some manufacturers may offer up to 7 years of warranty, reducing coverage. During the validity period of this warranty, the seller, manufacturer, or importer of the Ducati motorcycle must be responsible for defects and breakdowns detected in the vehicle, provided they are not the result of misuse. Of course, this warranty does not cover the repair or replacement of components that naturally wear out due to vehicle usage, such as tires, brake pads, oils, filters, among others.

Returning to the initial question, if your Ducati motorcycle is under warranty, should you take it to an official workshop or can you choose one of your preference?

The answer is clear: you have complete freedom to choose the workshop where you want to carry out the maintenance or repair of your Ducati motorcycle. European regulations advocate for free competition in this regard. However, it is established that technicians must strictly follow the instructions outlined in the motorcycle’s maintenance manual; otherwise, you could risk losing the warranty.
